She is a research scientist at the Institute for Excellence in Health Equity, New York University, Grossman School of Medicine. She has over 15 years of experience in cross-cultural psychopathology and mental health intervention research in low-resource contexts. Her research career has involved the development, examination of the efficacy, and implementation of evidence-based interventions (EBIs) for mental health problems in vulnerable and marginalized populations. Her work centers around the WHO mhGAP framework and, more recently, focuses on mental health measurement indicators at the population level, keeping vulnerable populations in mind. She was part of a pilot study at Kenya’s Kenyatta and Mathari National Teaching and Referral hospitals in an effort to study outcomes of psychotherapies offered in routine practice, a study that was carried out in 2014- 2017. In the current Marbar study, she is the overall principal investigator.
